Our ministry The Ladies of Charity of Dallas, a non-profit organization, is a ministry of service provided by concerned women and men in our community. Our volunteers and members are people of all denominations who come together in a common bond under the Lord?s guiding hand, with a desire to give aid to unfortunate persons undergoing emergency, and sometimes heartbreaking situations. The Ladies of Charity of Dallas is often the "last hope" for many. Our Purpose Our main purpose is to imitate our Lord in helping the needy, both spiritually and materially, in a spirit of the three principal virtues of the association: humility, simplicity and charity. Personal service to the poor, especially the ill, the underprivileged, the handicapped, the children, the elderly, the distressed and the lonely, has always been a part of the life and activity of the Ladies of Charity. We also strive for social justice, support other charitable undertakings, and promote spiritual growth of the members. Our History The association of Ladies of Charity was the first of the great foundations of St. Vincent de Paul. Established in a parish in Chatillion-les-Dombres, Lyons, France in 1617, Ladies of Charity is the oldest religiously-oriented volunteer group in existence. The first Ladies of Charity in the USA was founded in St. Louis, Missouri in 1857. Ladies of Charity of the United States (LCUSA,), which was formally organized in 1960, is affiliated with the Association of International Charities. There are approximately 420,000 members worldwide. Ladies of Charity of Dallas was founded in 1961, by Fr. Oscar Huber, then pastor of Holy Trinity Church, and twenty-five women from twelve parishes throughout the city. In December of 1980, the present facility at 2710 Samuel Blvd. was opened to better accommodate the services of the association. Today, there are more than 250 active and supporting members in the Dallas area, who represent a cross-section of local churches and denominations. We are listed in the National Catholic directory and the Directory of Services of Greater Dallas. All operation expenses are met by the Thrift Store's income, and all money contributions go into a fund to help the needy. |

| "You will find that charity is a heavy burden to carry, heavier than the kettle of soup and the basket of bread. But you must keep you gentleness and your smile. Giving soup and bread isn?t all that the rich can do. You are the little servant of the poor, the maid of charity, always smiling and in good humor. They are your masters, terribly sensitive and exacting as you will see, but the uglier and dirtier they are, the more unjust and bitter, the more you must give them of your love. It is only because of your love that the poor will forgive you." -the advice of St. Vincent De Paul |
